La Coupe Hauxer

A battle for hockey bragging rights through head to head competition between each of our favorite teams - Devils (Brad), Flyers (Wiley), Penguins (Sam), and Capitals (Fritz/William). The winner(s) gets the historic La Coupe Hauxer and the universal currency of respect/adminiration. The loser(s) gets the Stanley Screwdriver, the universal currency of humiliation and has to buy everyone dinner at the Vienna Inn. Game on!

Crazy game puts Caps back in third, Pengyunz back in last

Ah, sweet victory for the nation's Capitals. They went into the biggest dump in the NHL, came back a couple of times and beat a team even hotter than themselves. They even did it with a goaltender who only beats Pittsburgh 1/3 of the time he plays them and usually loses shootouts. The visitors even stopped a 5-3 power play in overtime!

Yesterday, the Pittsburgh governor was making excuses even before the puck was dropped:
So, I'll begin the excuse making now. Without Crosby, along with 3 of our better forwards and 2 defensemen out tonight with the injuries, the Caps have no one to blame if they can't finally beat my Pengyuns tonight. Prediction: Caps 4-1.
Wow, a Pittsburgh fan making excuses for losing, how shocking. Keep in mind the Capitals were also without their captain (again) and their #1 center (gone for the season), not too mention a couple of defensemen, but that isn't new, the Caps have been hurt all year, but aren't making excuses. They play to win and they have been because of tough guys like Quintin Laing, who blocked three shots in OT.

It is a good morning for those who were the red, white and blue.

No, you didn't stop a 5-3 power play in OT. OT rules limit the number of players a team can have as 4 + the goaltender. It was 2 consecutive 4-3 powerplays that you stopped.

I will give congratulations to Caps nation. The entire 4th line of the Pengyunz was making their NHL DEBUT last night, but its no excuse. The fact of the matter is I blame our coach entirely for the loss. Had he started Conklin in net at the beginning, the Caps would have lost. And why didn't he use Malkin in the shootout???

I take that back--there might have been a two man advantage, but for some reason my remembered it differently. Either way, it sure didn't seem like we had 2 extra guys. Of course, the Caps kept blocking all the shots.
